HEALTH MAINTENANCE CARE

Vaccinations

The core vaccines our doctors recommend are, DHPP, Rabies, Bordetella, Lyme and Leptospirosis for dogs, and FVRCP and Rabies for cats.

Rabies vaccines are required by NY state law for both cats and dogs. We may also recommend Canine Influenza for your dog and FELV for your cat.

In Westchester, New York, while infectious disease rates in companion animals are not particularly high, rabies and other diseases still pose a risk. Our veterinarians emphasize the importance of a tailored vaccine protocol as a key part of your pet's preventative care. Millwood Animal Hospital adheres to guidelines from the American Veterinary Medical Association and considers your pet lifestyle and exposure risks when vaccinating. For kittens and puppies, vaccines are spaced out to avoid overwhelming their developing immune systems.

Flea & Tick and Heartworm Preventatives

Flea and tick preventatives are crucial for your pet's health and comfort. These pests can cause a range of issues, from skin irritations to serious diseases. Regular use of preventatives helps protect your pet from infestations and reduces risk of transmitting diseases to other animals and even humans. By staying proactive with flea and tick prevention, you ensure a happier and healthier life for your furry companions.

Heartworm prevention is crucial for your pet's health and well-being. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquito bites and can lead to serious health issues, including heart failure and even death. By using a preventative treatment, you protect your furry friend from this potentially fatal disease. Regular check-ups and consistent medication can ensure your pet stays happy and healthy for years to come.
